Clutch Gears

Making an informed decision

Our kit differs from the others in several aspects and, in order to make an informed decision, you should know the differences:

  1. our kit is available in two gear ratios - 27:59 and 27:60 - to choose between. The other kits are available with a unique gear ratio;
  2. some kits retain the original cush drive, others don't. Our kit does. You should know that making rectangular holes costs much more than making circular ones, and that there was a reason for Suzuki to include a cush drive in the clutch: the RG 500 gears are fragile and using the clutch without the cush drive will shorten the life of the whole transmission;
  3. some kits include a pinion without the centering bush and the customer has to recycle the bushing of the original gear. We've been told some customers had huge difficulties doing this operation and ended up spending money at a workshop able to do it. Our pinion is supplied with the bush pre-installed, centered and shaved flush, ready to be bolted on the shaft;
  4. we've been told about kits that are actually impossible or very hard to install because the gears' teeth force onto each other (wrong tolerances). We paid a lot of attention to gear teeth tolerances both in the design phase and in the manufacturing phase and the finished product was verified by a test install (it bolts on and it has correct clearance);
  5. our pinion teeth are ground with a particular profile aimed at reducing friction, noise and at extending the service life of both gears;
  6. the other kits provide you only the two gears and you have to reuse the needle roller cage and the inner ring (sleeve) of the old clutch, and unless you are incredibly lucky you'll get wrong coupling clearances. There is a reason Suzuki doesn't sell those parts separately, that is the importance of getting the correct clearance with micron tolerance to ensure correct functioning. We select all the parts one by one with micrometrical tolerance and give you the gear already coupled with new matching inner ring and needle cage;
  7. our kit also includes both the inner and the outer washers of the clutch sprocket. Made of good steel, they were processed by a sequence of mechanical, heat and chemical treatments, including a patented treatment of one of our suppliers, in order to obtain a hard surface having low friction and self-lubricant properties, still keeping the part elastic and tough. These washers can also be used with the original clutch to solve some of its peculiar problems; later these parts will be available for purchase separately.
